Schools & Educators

Public and private schools across North America—and internationally—most often seek Brendan’s guidance for two interconnected reasons:

01

Navigating Gender Dynamics

Helping educators, staff, and parents understand and support boys and young men, address challenges around masculinity, and foster meaningful gender equity.

02

Enhancing Social-Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health

Equipping the entire school community—staff, parents, and students—with practical, research-based strategies to promote students’ social, emotional, and academic growth.

Common Challenges Schools Face

When it comes to boys, masculinity, and wellbeing, these are the most frequent concerns schools bring forward:

boys struggling silently
  • Mental health challenges (e.g., substance use, screen overuse, gambling)
  • Disengagement from academics and school life
  • Loneliness and isolation—paired with a quiet desire for connection and guidance
Concerning Behaviors Emerging Loudly
  • Echoing harmful online influencers (e.g., red-pill, black-pill, manosphere content)
  • Aggressive or disrespectful language and behavior toward peers and staff; safety concerns
  • Lack of empathy, accountability, and relational skills, especially in group dynamics
  • Growing gender divides in peer relationships
Boys Feeling Like “Problems” Rather Than People
  • Feeling misunderstood, vilified, or unfairly assumed to be in the wrong
  • Fear of making mistakes, asking questions, or expressing honest opinions

A Collaborative, Sustainable Approach

Following initial consultations, Brendan works closely with schools to co-create an actionable plan that may include:

  • CUSTOMIZED TRAININGS AND WORKSHOPS FOR STAFF, TEACHERS, COACHES, PARENTS, AND STUDENTS
  • TAILORED RESOURCES, TOOLS, AND CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
  • PRACTICAL FRAMEWORKS FOR FOSTERING ONGOING, SUSTAINABLE CULTURE SHIFTS

Brendan’s goal is to honour the specific context and needs of each school and leave their community equipped for lasting success—ready to support the wellbeing, growth, and leadership potential of all students and staff.

Brendan’s visit had a profound impact on our school, not just on our students, but on our faculty and coaches as well. The conversations he facilitated opened doors that many of our educators hadn’t been able to access before. Faculty shared that they felt both challenged and supported in rethinking how they engage with boys in the classroom, and our coaches walked away with a renewed sense of their role in shaping not just athletes, but emotionally aware and thoughtful young men.

— Eva Ostrowsky, Director of Counselling & Wellness at the Hun School of Princeton

At the University of Victoria, we hired Brendan to do training with staff from multiple offices on how to engage men in change and healing, and it was a massive success. Brendan provided very clear and actionable steps to working productively with men, including frameworks to understand the current social and political climate around masculinity as well as the social, emotional, and psychological barriers men face to healing. The training helped us reshape our learning outcomes and engagement strategies for men’s programs, and much of our new curriculum is built on the content and training Brendan provided. The training was highly productive and actionable, and we highly recommend it for anyone looking to better work with men.
